Knowledge & Skills For Caring
Having the right tools to do the job. It’s an expression familiar to us all, but how does it relate to caring?
To be the best carer you can be, may take more than just wanting to do it - you will need knowledge and the confidence to make positive changes in your life, and that of the person you care for.
Guideposts in Rugby aims to provide some FREE carers’ skills training, in structured but friendly sessions during September and October 2011. Topics to be covered include safe moving of someone, eating and drinking well, relaxation for carers, what is dementia – living well with dementia and moving into a residential home. You will also have the chance to talk to other carers as well as the professionals at each session. Refreshments and comfortable surroundings.
If you’re interested in finding out more about these sessions call 01788 577825.
The government has a training initiative to support carers, it’s called Caring With Confidence and is designed to offer a variety of ways for carers to gain confidence in their role. It is free, there are local group sessions, self study options or on-line sessions. Find out what is available locally.
The training will
- help to build on your strengths as a carer
- give you the opportunity to share experiences
- give you ideas, tips, and information
- help you make positive changes to your caring role.
