Carers’ Week (13 – 19 June)

Guideposts Trust has many activities planned in Warwickshire to celebrate Carers’ Week this year. The aim is to reach out to as many carers as we can, letting you know that there is support for you and you’re not alone. By carers we mean people who provide practical support to someone in their family or community who can’t manage independently. The care could be an occasional lift to the doctors or it could mean living with someone providing support day and night.

Many carers feel isolated, exhausted and stressed by what they do. Often they feel very undervalued and neglect their own wellbeing and care – they come last in the list of priorities. Carers’ Week is for them – for you, to raise awareness and to get carers the support needed.

Events we’ve planned are:

Monday 13th June

Clock Towers shopping centre, Rugby

Information stand, lovely handmade craft items to buy to support our services and most importantly come along to talk to people who care and know how to improve things for you. 10am to 3pm

Community Cafe, Church Street, Nuneaton

Information desk and someone to talk to about getting help for you. Enjoy some refreshments too and meet up with Nuneaton’s Mayor, Neil Phillips. 10am to 3pm.

Tuesday 14th June

Hill Street Youth and Community Centre, Rugby

Warwickshire Young Carers and Guideposts are jointly holding a “Young Carers’ Restaurant” It’s for some of Rugby’s young carers to have fun and impress with their culinary skills. Rugby’s Mayor Gwen Hotten will be one of the guests, so spoons at the ready! If you’d like to know more contact Anne on 01788 577825.

Wednesday 15th June

Nuneaton Market

An information stand and a chance to speak to people who can provide some support and ideas. 9am to 3pm

Friday 17th June

Shortcrust Cafe, Station Street, Atherstone

Coffee, cake and conversation. Join us between 10am and 3pm for refreshments and the chance to find out about local support to carers.

Guideposts’ Rugby Office, 44 Regent Street, Rugby

Coffee, cake and conversation for carers in Rugby. Please call by anytime between 11am and 2pm. Enjoy some refreshments and perhaps a pampering treatment for carers (call for details 01788 577825). Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey will be attending so he can chat to carers and gain an insight into their lives.

During Carers’ Week libraries in Rugby, Atherstone, Bedworth, Coleshill will have carer support information stands. You can help yourself to an information leaflet and see the types of services we offer and how we can help you.

Warwickshire National Health Service is encouraging everyone eligible to get their ‘flu jab through its Flu-rrggh campaign. Anyone over the age of 65 is eligible and anyone with significant health conditions under this age can have a vaccination through the NHS. To find out more contact Warwickshire National Health Service or telephone your GP to request a vaccination.

Follow the recommended “catch it, bin it, kill it” method.

Using good hand hygiene is always advisable as it can protect you from some strains of virus which can lead to infection. Thoroughly wash hands frequently throughout the day, especially if you have been in public places, at work or have used public transport. Always wash hands before eating and after using the lavatory as a matter of routine, which will also help protect against stomach upsets.

Having ‘flu when you’re elderly can lead to serious conditions such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

Keep your bugs to yourself and respect other people’s health!

YOUNG MOTHER BEATS CREDIT CRUNCH AS LUCKY NUMBERS MAKE HER HOLIDAY DREAMS COME TRUE!

Victora Randall from Plymouth is celebrating her £2,000 cash prize win with a special holiday for her children.

Speaking of her win an excited Victoria said, “I have only been playing Cashcascade for four months and so it was a real surprise to hear that I had won the Match4 weekly prize of £2,000! With all the talk of the credit crunch I thought I was going to have to deny the children a holiday to be able to pay household bills, but now, thanks to this lucky win, I can treat the children to a special holiday. It is just fantastic.”

Cashcascade, a lottery-style game based on predicting the winning numbers from the New York lottery, is a way of supporting participating charities while, at the same time, playing for a chance to win prizes ranging from £10 to £50,000.

Win up to £50,000 playing Guideposts new lottery style game.
