About Guideposts Trust

In the UK over six million people suffer from mental illness, one million have a learning disability and over 700,000 have Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Of these people, around 99% live in our communities as our relatives, friends and neighbours.

Guideposts Trust is an independent registered charity which has been providing support and services to the community since 1972.

We provide direct services to individuals offering advice and assistance including:

  • Dementia services
  • Carers Support
  • Support at home
  • Community outreach
  • Help at home
  • Domiciliary care
  • Education and training
  • Counselling

This comprehensive range of support services aims to improve the lives of individuals by maximising their potential, actively promoting their independence and choice and enabling them to take part in the community. With Guideposts support  people are able to fulfill their own goals which enable them to live life the way they want to.

In all our projects and services we start from the view point that every person is special and deserving of dignity and choice and this ethos runs through the Trust.

Service users’ needs and wishes are at the heart of what Guideposts does and all the services we run. We take a person centred approach to all our work. In practice, this means putting the people we support first, and we seek the views of all service users, their families and carers, through all aspects of our work.

In some cases our projects aim to help people improve their mental health, in others to come to terms with a disability and live a more independent live. In all cases we aim to reduce social exclusion and isolation and promote equal opportunities, wellbeing and quality of life for all our service users ,their families and their carers.

We aim to be a practical and innovative organisation, working to develop new models and approaches to care that can serve as examples for others to follow. This means that we also work in partnership with Local Authorities, other Voluntary Organisations and similar groups to identify and fill the most urgent needs and to share experience gained as widely as possible. We are proud of the progress and difference we have made for the past 39 years.

Working locally, making a difference nationally

Guideposts Trust is involved at national level, through a number of projects and firmly based in our many communities with the creditable support of dedicated teams of staff and volunteers.

We hope you feel that our work is valuable and thank you for taking an interest.
