Under 30′s Group
For social and fun outings, meals, training and emotional support
The Under 30s Project has now been running for over 10 year. It was set up to promote mental health and psychological wellbeing offering comprehensive support specifically tailored to young people needs.
The group currently supports young people between the ages of 18 and 30 years old and accessed via a referral from Community Mental Health Teams, Adult Care Services, Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, the NHS Trust, voluntary organisations and from individuals where a risk assessment can be obtained via a key worker, GP and psychiatrist.
Support offered depends on the need of the service user which is established through an initial needs assessment and regular reviews to promote targeted and personalised support. It takes the form of 1:1 time with link worker, support with practical activities, personal issues or everyday issues or “supported me time” for a group member in crisis/ feeling very unwell.
Programme
Monday 10am – 12pm
Art
This group is for people who have an interest in art and enjoy painting, drawing, using crayons/pastels or any other medium that they enjoy working in. The group is for all ages and all abilities and is a chance for people to pursue a hobby they enjoy and express themselves creatively in a safe and relaxed environment. I run this group with support from one of our volunteers, Peter, who is an extremely talented artist himself.
Monday 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Pain Support Group
This is a group for clients who not only struggle with their mental health but who also suffer with a physical condition which causes them pain. The group aims to give people an opportunity to offload and explore practical options for either alleviating the pain or that allow them to pursue their interests in a more comfortable way. The group is mainly discussion based with the occasional outing or guest speaker.
Tuesdays 1.30 – 3.30 or 6pm – 8pm
Under 30s
Group for young adults with mental health issues. The group is a supportive group which offers the opportunity to socialise with others who face the same difficulties and barriers and take part in everyday activities which they may have otherwise struggled with. I run this group with Angie and we are supported by one of our volunteers, David.
Fridays 10.30 – 12.00pm
Gardening Group
This group is for people with an interest in gardening and the outdoors/nature. The group meet together weekly to either work on the garden at the daycentre or to go out to visit a garden in the local area or to a garden centre to look around and to purchase supplies for the group. The group is ran by myself and Angie and supported by one of our volunteers, Richard.
Fridays 1.30 – 3.30pm (alternate weeks when there is a demand)
Under 30s Workshops
These are run for our young clients and aim to help them adjust to their illness, improve their understanding of the difficulties they face and to work on some of the practical difficulties the group face with the aim of increasing their independent living skills. The workshops are run on a variety of topics and these come from the group themself, e.g. managing your own home, living with a mental illness, relationships, making friends, cooking for one.
