Henry Smith House
Henry Smith House is the base for our programme of activities for people with mental health problems.
We have groups including current affairs, relaxation, cookery, swimming, Art and craft, computing, discussion, yoga, gardening, and music appreciation.
We also run courses eg. in assertiveness and goal setting .
We run specific groups including:
Over 30s and Under 30s groups
Current Affairs – a lively group of 9 to 10 people keen to seek out the serious, the amusing & the downright bizarre stories from Monday’s tabloid & broadsheet newspapers;
Club2gether – a small & friendly social group that meets on Tuesday afternoons – our activities range from darts to bingo and from lively discussions in a local café to playing indoor bowls;
Men’s Group – a thriving & inquisitive group that lays to rest the myth that all men talk about is beer & sport. We have 8 people who meet on a Wednesday afternoon for friendly discussions, local walks, meals out, singing, quizzes and, oh, just a little sport when we play badminton & table tennis.
Saturday Morning “Drop In” – A 3 hour session from 10am, that gives clients the chance to relax with a cuppa, a sandwich, a friendly chat & the newspapers. For those with a little more energy there is the opportunity for games of scrabble, rummikub and othello or to do some painting or to take part in a fun quiz. All are welcome.
There are also trips, outings, barbecues, speakers (subjects include e.g.; benefits advice, user involvement, voluntary and paid employment opportunities, smoking, depression, schizophrenia, medication) and social events. Opportunities include IT training and employment training at our shop premises.
