Fundraising Ideas
Do whatever you want!
And make your event as sensible or as wild and quirky as you like!
The following ideas have been tried and recommended by our previous fundraisers.
Get sporty with it …Hold a charity sports tournament, sponsored walk or golf day.
Muuusic! … Have a talent contest, karaoke competition or carol singing evening.
Go on “have a ball” … with a fancy dress party, BBQ or barn dance or even a black tie ball for a fabulous night of glitz and glamour.
For Sale … organise a Car boot sale, cake sale or auction of promises.
Do something silly! …Have a doughnut eating contest or welly-wanging competition.
Dinner party …cook up a storm and host a fundraising meal at home.
Gaming evening … you could organise a poker and other casino-style games evening a great night out and a simple way to raise money.
Test your knowledge … Hold a quiz or Mastermind tournament or pretend you are Chris Tarrant for a night and invite teams to enter.
Story Tellers … Invite a guest speaker to give a free talk to your social group or in a local hall.
Auctions and raffles … ask friends, family and local businesses to donate goods, which you can then raffle or auction.
For kids … treasure hunts, Teddy bear picnic, pet show or face painting always works a treat.
For adults … Chest/leg wax, sponsored slim, swear box or food hamper raffle.
Step by Step to organising your fundraising event
1 – On your mark!
Decide what to do – see above for some inspiration
Choose where and when you will do it – remember to consider the weather and maybe include a plan B in case it takes a turn for the worse!
Book any venue or equipment needed. Ask family, friends and colleagues to help you – the more the merrier!
Our free fundraising pack will soon be available. It will have everything you need to organise a fantastic event.
2- Raising Money
Set a realistic fundraising target so you have something to aim for.
Decide how much to charge people to be part of the fun!
Ask family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you. Your employer may have a matched giving scheme which is an easy way of doubling what you raise!
Set up an online sponsorship page.
Please do not collect money from door to door. This is illegal without a licence and Guideposts organises this nationally.
