Get Involved – Volunteer for Guideposts
Guideposts relies on the invaluable support of hundreds of volunteers every year. Donating your gift of time is just as important to us as donations of money.
Whether it’s taking an active part in all aspect of our projects and services, fundraising, spreading the word about guideposts – you can make a big difference that is appreciated and valued.
Anyone over the age of 16 can join us. It doesn’t matter what your skills, experience or background are, or how much time you have to give. The great thing about volunteering is that it is really flexible. You can fit it around all of the other things that you have to do. Whether you can spare a few hours or more each month we have an opportunity for you.
Within Guideposts there are many opportunities to volunteer including:
Getting involved in our project and services – Guideposts believes that volunteers have an immensely valuable contribution to make in the provision of community services bringing a wealth of life skills, character, knowledge and enthusiasm. Volunteers are instrumental in helping people we support access the help they need and deserve. You can help us with our valuable work promoting independent living to some of the most vulnerable members of our communities –those with mental health issues, learning disabilities, children who may have special needs, people with dementia and people who are carers. Contact us to discuss volunteer opportunities near you.
Getting involved in our Shops and Cafés – working in one of our shops or cafés gives you great experience of retail and catering trades and also allows you to meet loads of people in the community, whilst raising money and awareness for Guideposts’ services.
WE HAVE VACANCIES FOR VOLUNTEERS AT OUR CHARITY SHOP IN TEWKESBURY NOW! SEE http://www.guidepoststrust.org.uk/volunteers-needed/FOR DETAILS.
Pamela’s Story
Guideposts is slightly different from the other charity shops in Tewkesbury. We are on our own without any form of backup or help from other sister shops in the area as we are unique! Because of this, being a volunteer gives us more chance to use our own initiative. My times in the shop are always interesting, meeting the general public is the most important part of the work and over the years I have got to know many of our regular customers.
Behind the scenes is always an active place – the ‘back room’ as it is known is where the sorting is done and this to me is an amazing part of my shift. You never know what has been donated and believe me we have had some weird and wonderful items among the everyday things we receive! I sort and price books – the problem is there are so many I wish to read!
I really enjoy being a volunteer and working with like-minded people; I know that what we do really helps those who need assistance from the dementia support teams at Guideposts Trust.
Getting involved with fundraising – Another very simple and effective way of getting involved is to place collection boxes in your local shops or at work or take part in street/supermarket collection. Guideposts also runs a number of community events throughout the year that you can take part in. Contact us on 01993 893565 for more information.
Inspire interest and support for Guideposts through giving talks in your local community – The more people who understand the issues faced by the people we support the more likely we can make a greater difference for them. Guideposts can improve the lives of more vulnerable people with your help, so help us spread the word.
Thank you so much for your support.
