Dreams 4 Children
The purpose of Dreams 4 Children is to provide outings and adventure activities for children with special needs and life-limiting illnesses so that they can go out socially, have fun, and learn to take part in challenging events.
The children who benefit from the Dreams 4 Children Fund are those who have the highest physical, mental and emotional support needs. They may also come from families under the greatest emotional and financial stress. Our aim is to identify those children who are most at risk of social exclusion and those families who need a high level of social support.
By giving to Dreams 4 Children you are helping to enable a child to take part in activities designed to widen their horizons both in terms of self-discovery and social experiences that would otherwise be outside their usual lifestyle. You are helping a child to learn new skills, develop latent talents and gain increased confidence and social skills and experiences. You are helping empower a child to develop and believe in a sense of self, to set and achieve higher goals for their life. You are helping to provide lasting memories that can influence a child’s day-to-day life.
Guideposts works with children who have multiple and profound disabilities and/or sever and challenging behaviours. Many of the children who take part in Dreams 4 Children activities need one-to-one care and support – this might be medical help or physical support from specialist trained staff. Because of the nature of their disabilities there are few other projects or holiday or after-school schemes that can work with them, so they rarely have an opportunity to take part in social activities or mix and play with others in a safe and supervised environment.
Where poverty is also a factor, emotional stress can make family life difficult and this may result in family break-up or crisis. Dream 4 Children can help families in this situation, by providing much-needed help, support and respite.
With help from you, we can give children experiences that lead to improved quality of life, greater educational achievement, increased self-esteem and self-belief around what they can achieve – and through these experiences develop lasting skills, talents. friendships and relationships.
