Stephanie is delighted with her new TV – she’s just moved from a small flat to a house – so has plenty of room for a bigger TV!  Her friends used to laugh at the tiny size of her old TV, so this 32 inch screen should keep them quiet!

Guideposts Trust offices in Rugby support people with dementia and their carers, through the Dementia Information Service for Carers.  Currently, in Rugby there are 1100 people with dementia, with this figure set to rise to 1600 by 2020. In Warwickshire as a whole, over 6700 people have this debilitating disease, which by 2020 will affect over 9300 people.  This means that a lot more people will become carers of people with dementia.  The support of a service like DISC will be crucial in making sure carers have access to all the information, advice and support they need.

DISC can help by giving advice and information on a range of topics including:

• Information about dementia such as what it is and its effects
• Helping to find the right Care Services that can support you and the person you care for
• Financial implications such as the cost of care and how to help someone manage their money, lasting power of attorney and decisions about care
• Discussing your options with care homes, voluntary organisations, social and health care services
• Your rights as a carer and your rights as a working carer
• How to maintain family relationships with the person with dementia, how to communicate and enjoy your time together and how to keep their social life as active as possible.

Mrs Anne Hoggan of Lanarkshire, Scotland is the winner of June’s £5000 draw.  Anne bought just 10 entries and this was the first Guideposts draw she has entered!  What a fantastic way to start the summer!

There was a total of 74250 entries into the draw.  The next draw will take place on Friday, 23 September 2011.

The weather was kind to us and everybody enjoyed the various attractions and music on show. We would like to say a particular thank you to Eynsham Hall for hosting the event and also to Staff at Sainsbury’s in Witney who undertook various voluntary jobs and without whom the event would’nt have been such a success.

 

Chris Benton completed the 3 Peaks Challenge early August 2010 in a time of 21 hours 37 minutes!

In the process he has managed to raise over £500 in support of our Dementia care work.
