Community Support – Independent Living
Guideposts offers 1:1 individually tailored community based packages of support which empower individuals to make choices about their own lives and achieve what they want out of life. This support could include support with budgeting, accessing leisure facilities, shopping, cooking meals, employment support, support to pursue hobbies, using a computer, accessing the internet and sending emailssupport to maintain friendships, support with and the development of communication through sign, symbols etc., support with accessing educational facilities.
Range of activities include:
- Using the local supermarket
- Using the local public swimming pool
- Travelling by public bus
- Using local college beauty department
- Having lunch in a local cafe / pub
- Going to the local cinema
- Attending the local tea dance
- Going for a walk in the park
- Using local trains
- Attending classical concerts at church
- Going canoeing
- Having a horse-riding lesson
- Joining a dance class
- Using the local gym
- Visiting other local towns
- Using the library
- Attending a college course
- Going ten pin bowling
- Playing sport with friends e.g. football, badminton
- Sightseeing e.g. London or seaside trip.
This is by no means an exhaustive list but gives some idea of the types of activities we support people to do.
