Trustees
Guideposts Trust is governed by a board of Trustees, the Charity’s board of directors. Our Board’s role is to set the Charity’s strategic direction, monitor the delivery of the Charity’s objects, uphold its values and governance and guide, advice and support the Chief Executive, who leads the Senior Management Team towards achieving the Charity’s purpose.

Mr Robert Elmore – Chair

Appointed in 1972
Fellow of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health. He has been an academic at Oxford University since 1965 where he was Staff Tutor/University Lecturer in the University Department for Adult and Continuing Education and a Fellow of Kellogg College. On his retirement he was elected Emeritus Fellow of Kellogg College.
He has been actively involved in the work of a number of voluntary organisations and local statutory agencies throughout this time in Oxford including being member of the Elmore committee, a body concerned with the rehabilitation of ex-offenders, established in 1968. He was a co-founder and is currently President of the Carers’ Centre, Oxford, a Trust concerned with the interests of family Carers. He was a member of the Oxfordshire Health Authority for thirteen years and became Vice Chairman; member of the Oxfordshire Probation and After-Care Committee. He is currently one of two independent members of the Standards committee of Oxfordshire County Council.

Dr Catherine Oppenheimer
MA, BM, BCh, FRCP(UK), FRCPPsych

Dr Catherine Oppenheimer is a Consultant Psychogeriatrician in the Oxfordshire Mental Healthcare NHS Trust’s Department of Psychiatry of Old Age in Oxford. She is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the University Department of Psychiatry; a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and of the Royal College of Physicians; and at present is Regional Advisor in Psychiatry for Oxford region. She was formerly Psychiatric Tutor for Oxford and Co-ordinating Tutor for the Oxford Regional Training Scheme in Psychiatry. She is co-editor (with Dr Robin Jacob) of the textbook ‘Psychiatry in the Elderly’, published by Oxford University Press, and writes on ethical issues in old age and sexuality in old age.

Dennis Edwards

Dennis Edwards is the Chief Executive Officer of Viewpoint Mental Health Charity. He was formerly a Project Manager of Turning Point Mental Health Rehabilitation Project and Learning Disabilities Project.
Lydia Hirst

Having gained a detailed knowledge of the petrochemicals industry with Shell Chemicals in marketing roles in the UK, Europe and internationally from polymers and base chemicals to fine chemicals; Lydia Hirst undertook a number of internal roles in Quality, planning, business process management/re-engineering and competitor analysis. She started her own management consultancy, LH Consulting, in 1996 initially specialising in the use of Quality Standards and Frameworks for business improvement. Her work has expanded to include Equalities (mainly in the Health sector) and Leadership & Management development and Coaching/Mentoring across many sectors. Lydia is also a Customer First Assessor and the Director of North London Chamber of Commerce.
